EARL JOHN ROBERTS
SPRUCE PINE - Earl John Roberts, 85, of Roberts Circle, died Sunday, 
Oct. 13, 2002 at the VA Medical Center in Oteen. Born in Tennessee, he 
was the son of the late John Henry and Ellen Forbes Roberts, and 
husband of the late Virgie Gurley Roberts. A U.S. Army veteran, he was 
the owner of Roberts Grocery in the Crabtree community.
Survivors include his daughters, Evelyn Parker and Jo Ann Simmons, 
both of Spruce Pine; sons, Gene and Tony Roberts, of Spruce Pine; five 
grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Henline-
Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Revs. Travis Garland and Dallas 
Renfro officiated. Burial was at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Spruce Pine 
Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday 
at the funeral home.
