MARVIN WOOD ROOKS
LITTLE SWITZERLAND – Marvin Wood Rooks, 84, died Saturday, April 27, 
2002 in a Spruce Pine rest home. He was the son of the late Marvin and 
Dixie Williams Rooks. A member of Spruce Pine Methodist Church, he also 
belonged to the Lions, Rotary and Kiwanis clubs. He received his masters 
degree from the University of Florida and served as principal of several 
schools in Florida. He was also a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Bernie Avinger Rooks; sons, Marvin E. Rooks of 
Orlando, FL, and Larry Rooks of Gainsville, FL; a sister, Rebecca Hunt of 
Daytona Beach, FL; a brother, Dr. John Rooks of Lakeland, FL; and four 
grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce 
Pine is in charge of arrangements.
