Strain ecss12830@yahoo.com February 11, 2009, 9:00 pm Henline-Hughes Funeral Home Evelyn Thomas Sagan, 61, passed away at 7:07am, January 9, 2009, at her home in Bakersville, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Evelyn was born July 7, 1947 in Richmond Heights, Missouri, to her surviving parents, Eugene and Vera Thomas. After graduating from the NC State University in 1969, Evelyn married her devoted husband of 39 years, Albert P. Sagan in 1969. Evelyn was employed at Bell South for 30 years in Raleigh and later Charlotte. She was the past Adjutant for Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary-Mitchell County, Chapter 58. Surviving with her husband are her loving daughters, Elizabeth Sagan and Alexia Furr (Johnathon) and her son, Nicholas Sagan (Anna). Also surviving are her two precious grandchildren Sam Furr and Charlie Sagan who provided her much joy and comfort; sister, Janet Tigue (Tim) and brother, Mark Thomas (Cindy); Mother- in-Law, Lucille Sagan; as well as a large extended family. Her brother, Stephen Thomas (Sharon) recently passed away. Evelyn was deeply devoted to her family and close to many dear friends. Her bravery and consoling personality continue to inspire us. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00pm on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Henline-Hughes Funeral Home, Bakersville, NC; and at Bass Lake Retreat, Holly Springs, NC on Sunday, January 18, 2009 from 12:30-4pm. The family will receive friends afterwards at their home in Bakersville, NC. The family also wishes to thank her medical team at the VA Medical Center, Mountain Home, TN for their dedication to Evelyn's health and comfort.
