JESSE JAMES SNIPES 

SPRUCE PINE - Jesse James Snipes, 84, of Hollifield Rd., died Friday, July 28, 
2006 at his home. A native of Mitchell County he was the son of the late 
Alonzo and Florence McKinney Snipes. Snipes was a veteran of WWII serving in 
the U.S. Marine Corp. and was also a self employed building contractor. He was 
also preceded in death by two brothers David and Lewis Snipes and a sister 
Rachael Matheson.

Survivors include his wife Louise Hollifield Snipes of the home; son Steve 
James Snipes of Spruce Pine, brother George Snipes of Stanley, and sister Mary 
Lee Cuthbertson of Spruce Pine. 

The funeral service was held 2 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2006 in the Grassy Creek 
Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Revs. Gene Self and B.G. McMahan 
officiated and burial followed in the Grassy Creek Memorial Garden. The family 
received friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Webb Funeral Home. Flowers are 
appreciated or memorials may be made to the Peru Orphanage Fund, c/o Grassy 
Creek Baptist Church, 793 Old US 226, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
