NC went to be with the Lord whom she loved and faithfully served, Saturday, March 8.2008."Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints," She is reunited with her dear husband, Hankins Sparks, to whom she was married for fifty years. Born in Bakersville, NC, 1913, the daughter of Moses Tarpley (Tarp) Ellis and Theodocia (Docia) Elmira Ellis; she was a homemaker, an employee of Hampshire and Burnsville Hosiery Mills, and Mayland Food Market. Myrtle was a devoted, faithful wife, a loving mother who sacrificed much for her children, and cared deeply for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Bear Creek Baptist Church; previously a charter member of Ledger Baptist Church and most recently attended Leesville Road Baptist Church after she came to live in Lynchburg. Va. in 2004, with her daughter and son-in-law, Carland Carolyn Diemer. She was always surrounded with a loving family and a great host of friends whom she loved dearly. She will be remembered for blessing the lives of so many by her constant concern for people, her generous spirit and for joking and teasing others; "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine" (Proverbs 17:22) She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Carolyn Sparks Diemer of Lynchburg, Va. Evelyn Sparks Slagle of Raleigh, NC and a son, Hal Sparks of Logansville, GA. She will be missed greatly by Carolyn and her husband Carl, grandson Curt and his wife Tammy, granddaughter Christy, of Portland Oregon, great grandson, James and great grand daughter Anna, Amber and Alise of Midlothian, VA. She also leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Evelyn Slagle, her husband Dan of Raleigh. NC. grandson, Mark, grand daughters, Rachel. Sarah her husband Chris Garrett; also by her son Hal and his wife Ann of Logansville, GA, grand daughter, Nancy and her husband David Daniel, great grandsons Reid and Mitchell and by grand daughter Sandy and her husband, Tom DuMay. and triplet grand daughters, Brooke, Amber and Taylor whom she adored and was able to visit and hold in Logansville, Ga. in 2005 and again in Raleigh. NC in 2006 at her niece's wedding. Myrtle was the last survivor of Moses Tarpley (Tarp) and Theodocia (Docia) Ellis. She was preceded in death by one sister Atlas, and six. brothers: Carl, Earl, Paul, C.O. Emmett and Cline. She leaves many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends who will miss her kind words and beautiful smile. The funeral service will be conducted at Bear Creek Baptist Church Thursday March 13 at 4:00 PM by Pastor Chris Rathbone and Dr. Carl Diemer. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at ledger Cemetery alongside her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions he made to Leesville Road Baptist Church sound system fund. Myrtle requested that memorial contributions might be made to Books Without Borders. P.O.
