JACK DEAN SPARKS 

BAKERSVILLE - Jack Dean Sparks, 76, of the Bear Creek community, died 
Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006. He was the son of the late Arby and Alice Grindstaff 
Sparks. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Edd Sparks; and a sister, 
Hettie Stevenson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of 
Ledger Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and Sunday School 
teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Rebekah Lee Sparks of the home; a daughter, Teresa 
Dale of Bakersville; two sons, Jack Dean Sparks Jr. of Marion and Jeffery Donn 
Sparks of Micaville; three sisters, Kathleen Buchanan and Melby Pitman, both 
of Bakersville, and Milia Black of Burnsville; eight grandchildren; three 
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ledger Baptist Church. Burial 
followed in Ledger Cemetery. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until the 
service hour Saturday at the church. Memorial donations may be made to the 
Mitchell County Senior Center. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine assisted the 
family.
