VIRGIL STAFFORD 

SPRUCE PINE - Virgil Stafford, 76, of Berry Street, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 
2008 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. He was the son of the late Tom and 
Lucille Pitman Stafford, and husband of the late June Cox Stafford. He was 
also preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Matthew Stafford. He retired from 
Henredon Furniture and was a member of Freedom Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Billy Joe Stafford of Spruce Pine; a daughter, Judy 
Lowery of Spruce Pine; three stepchildren, Patricia Silver of Spruce Pine, 
Billy Joe Cox of Marion, and Ricky Cox of Green Mountain; two brothers, Joe 
Ray Stafford of Valdese, and Rev. Don Stafford of Bakersville; five 
grandchildren; and several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Freedom Baptist Church on Roan 
Road. The Revs. David Troutman, Donald Davis, and Greg Hollifield officiated. 
Burial followed in the church cemetery, Freedom Gardens. The family received 
friends from 2 p.m. until the service hour Sunday at the church. Henline-
Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville assisted the family.
