A native of Buladean, he was the son of the late Carolina Street Baird, and stepson of the late James Baird. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He had been employed by Harrisburg State Hospital and worked for Lyon Metals for over 30 years. He had also worked for York Corrugating, as a security guard for the York Welfare Office, and most recently as a greeter for West York Wal-Mart. He was a member of Mt. Wolf V.F.W. Post 2493 and of Rohler's Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Ida Laird Street of the home; two daughters, Judith A. Pepo and Linda Street, both of York; two grandsons; six great grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heffner Funeral Chapel in York. Burial was in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors by the York County Veterans' Honor Guard. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m until the service hour Wednesday at the funeral home.
