Born in Mitchell County, he was the son of Myrtle Duncan Abernathy of Hickory and the late James Lindsey Swann. He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Swann. He was retired from Canteen Vending Services after 33 years as a vending mechanic. He attended Eastside Baptist Church in Shelby and was a member of Pine Grove Golf Course, the Senior Golf Association, and the VFW. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was a U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Janet Francis Dixon Swann of the home; three stepsons, Todd Blanton of Boiling Springs, and Eddie and Jimmy Wellmon, both of Shelby; two stepdaughters, Rhonda Wood of Boiling Springs and Debbie Holmes of Shelby; eight grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. J. Eric Davis officiated. Burial was in Swann Family Cemetery.
