May Byrd Smith

Deceased  --  Jan. 24, 2001, May Byrd Smith, age 92, of Byrd Road, Mitchell
Co.  She was daughter of Kimsey Byrd and wife Eliza Hughes Byrd, and wife of
Capt. Vernon Smith, deceased.   Burial in Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery.
She was a former school teacher in Mitchell Co., and was active in civilian
activities in aid of the military in WWII.
She is survived by nieces Jane Hunter of Bakersville, NC, Edna Ham of West
Jefferson, NC, Juanita Harbour of Cameron (?), and Carol Harrell of
Salisbury, NC, nephews A. D. Harrell and Bruce Harrell, both of Bakersville,
NC.
