He was the son of the late Alonzo and Florence Elizabeth McKinney Snipes. A devoted grandfather, he was a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Shelba Jean Hollifield Snipes; daughters,Susan Snipes Long of Marion, and Stephanie Snipes of the home; grandson, Jesse Snipes of the home; sister, Mary Lee Snipes Cuthbertson of Spruce Pine; and brothers, Jesse Snipes of Spruce Pine and George Snipes of Mt. Holly. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Revs. R.M. Cassity and Dr. Wayne Slaton officiated. Burial was in Grassy Creek Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 2 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
