She was the daughter of the late Reuben S. and Hattie Jane Gouge Gage, and wife of the late Robert B. Sparks. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Hughes and Joyce Sparks. A homemaker, she was a member of Cub Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include five daughters, Phyllis McKinney, Emma Geouge and Louise Higgins of Spruce Pine, Patsy Connelly of Black Mountain, and Nina Long of Halifax, VA; one son, Howard Sparks of Spruce Pine; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Revs. David Vess and Larry Green officiated. Burial followed in Slagle Cemetery.
