EUGENE SPARKS
BAKERSVILLE – Eugene Sparks, 67, of Sparks Road, died Monday, July 8, 2002 
at Cannon Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late Fred A. and Nellie 
Pitman Sparks. He was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Stewart Sparks of the home; daughters, 
Loretta Burleson of Bakersville, and Sheila Benfield of Spruce Pine; son, 
Howard Eugene Sparks of Hendersonville; brothers, Joe Sparks of Spruce Pine, 
Ted Sparks of Crabtree, Frank Sparks of Bakersville, and Parnell Sparks of 
Morganton; sisters, Loretta Pittman, Kate Mae Pittman and Louise Wyatt, all 
of Spruce Pine; seven grandchildren; one step grandchildl and five great 
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bear Creek Baptist Church. 
Revs. Chris Rathbone and Darrell Wright officiated. Burial was in the church 
cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Webb Funeral 
Home in Spruce Pine.
