MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Joe Sparks, 6 Jan 2005

SPRUCE PINE - Joe Sparks, 82, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005 in 
a Spruce Pine rest home. He was the son of the late Fred A. and Nellie 
Pitman Sparks. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Sparks. 
A U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, he was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughters, Pat Cox of Spruce Pine, and Judy Haynes 
of Washington, DC; a son, Benny Sparks of Spruce Pine; sisters, Kate 
Pitman, Loretta Pitman, and Mary Louise Wyatt, all of Spruce Pine; 
brothers, Frank Sparks of Bakersville, Ted Sparks of Spruce Pine; and 
Parnell Sparks of Morganton; eight grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bear Creek Baptist Church. 
Rev. Chris Rathbone officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. The 
family received friends from 2 p.m. until the service hour Saturday at the 
church. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine was in charge of arrangements.
