MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Elsie Young Sparks, 12 Feb 2005

BAKERSVILLE - Elsie Y. Sparks died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005. She was the
daughter of the late James H. and Maude McKinney Young, and wife of the late
Brown Sparks. She was employed at Ellen Knitting Mill until 1973, and was a
member of Snow Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Norma Jean Summers, Maude Rouselle Mears,
Zella Mae Carpenter, and Lou Ellen Metcalf; two sisters, Ella Murdock and
Nellie Grindstaff; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Snow Hill Baptist Church. Gerald
Grindstaff officiated. Burial was in Snow Hill Cemetery. Her daughter, Rev.
Zella Carpenter, officiated the graveside service. The family received friends
during a memorial reception following the service. Memorial donations may be
made to Mitchell County Hospice, P.O. Box 28, Spruce Pine, NC 28777; or to
Snow Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Lois Ellis, 10 Amber Mountain
Road, Bakesville, NC 28705.
