LUCILLE STAFFORD
SPRUCE PINE - Lucille Stafford, 89, of Overlook Drive, died Monday, 
Aug. 19, 2002 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Stephen 
and Blanche Putman Pitman, and wife of the late Tom Stafford. She was 
also preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Stafford; a son, Grover 
Stafford; sisters, Etta Griffith and Ruth ?????, and a brother, Foy 
Pitman. She was a member of Berry Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Virgil Stafford of Spruce Pine, Rev. Don 
Stafford of Bakersville, and Joe Stafford of Valdese; daughters, Vel 
Greer of Macon, GA, Daisy Cantrell of New Jersey and Muriel Farmer of 
Gastonia; eight grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in te Grindstaff Memorial 
Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Revs. Larry Greene and John 
Stafford officiated. burial was in Bear Creek Cemetery. The family received 
friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
