He was the son of the late George and Rosa Butner Stewart. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Regina Ann Stewart; and a brother, Lewis Stewart. He was a member of VFW Post 8060. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lovena Hollifield Stewart of the home; daughters, Virginia Kay Summlin and Karen McKinney, both of Spruce Pine, and Donna Rose Stewart of Asheville; son, Michael Stewart of Spruce Pine; sisters, Virginia Jones, Carrie Stewart and Dorothy Sparks, all of Spruce Pine, Mary Farmer of Morganton, and Martha Wright and Grace Stewart, both of Valdese; brothers, George Stewart Jr. of Marion, Charles and Frank Stewart of Spruce Pine, Tommy Stewart of Charlotte, and Jimmy Stewart of Hildebran; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bear Creek Baptist Church. Revs. Daniel Wayne Edwards and Chris Rathbone officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the church. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine was in charge of arrangements.
