She was the daughter of Elsie Young Sparks of Bakersville and the late Brown Sparks. A member of Calvary Baptist Church, she worked as an emergency room supervisor and hospital supervisor at Catawba Memorial Hospital until retiring in 1980. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Ray J. Summers of the home; a daughter, Kim Meacheal Summers of Taylorsville; three sisters, Lou Ellen Metcalf of Bakersville, Rouselle Mears of Knoxville, TN, and Zella Carpenter of Hickory; one grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Newton. Revs. Dave Seaford and Fred Thompson officiated. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. at Snow Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
