HATTIE C. THOMAS

GREEN MOUNTAIN - Hattie Callahan Thomas, 89, of the Brush Creek 
community, died Sunday, March 2, 2003 at her home. She was the 
daughter of the late Stokes and Ida Thomas Callahan, and wife of 
the late Isaac Thomas. She was also preceded in death by two 
brothers, John and Levi Callahan; and a sister, Lillie Bailey.
Survivors include two daughters, Ethel Lou T Jacobsonson of Asheville, 
and Sue Shoemake of Boone; two sons, Charles and A.J. Thomas, both 
of Green Mountain; two sisters, Corrine Canipe and Esther Thomas, 
both of Bakersville; a brother, Charles Callahan of Kingsport, TN; 
seven grandsons; and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Holcombe 
Brothers Funeral Home. Revs. Jack Callahan and Gerald Grindstaff 
officiated. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the 
Thomas Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. 
Memorial donations may be made to the Double Island Volunteer Fire 
Department in Green Mountain.
