BERTA SUE VANCE
NEWLAND – Berta Sue Vance, 96, of the Linville Falls community, died 
Saturday, May 18, 2002. A native of Mitchell County, she was the daughter 
of the late Joseph and Delzie Mace Ollis. She was also preceded in death 
by her husbands, Elbert Stamey Sr. and Harve Vance; two sons, Frank and 
Elbert Stamey Jr. and one daughter, Lillian Vance.
Survivors include one sister, Carrie Gouge of Celo; daughter-in-law, 
Maxine Stamey of Linville Falls; eight grandchildren; 14 great 
grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Pisgah Methodist Church. 
Revs. Keith Tutterow and Phillip McCall officiated. Burial was in the 
church cemetery. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at 
Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine.
