VESSIE WILLIS 

BAKERSVILLE - Vessie Willis, 92, of Jarrett Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008. 
She was the daughter of the late Merritt and Elizabeth Miller Sparks, and wife 
of the late Brown Willis. She was also preceded in death by a son, Randall 
Willis; five sisters, Milia Burleson, Tennie Greene, Nettie Donnahue, Naomi 
Henline, and Emma Lee Buchanan; and three brothers, Steve, Cecil and Avery 
Sparks. A charter member of Bear Creek Baptist Church, she held many offices 
there over the years.

Survivors include a son, Roger of Bakersville; a brother, Merritt Sparks of 
Raleigh; and one grandson. 

A celebration of life service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bear Creek 
Baptist Church. The Rev. Chris Rathbone officiated. Burial followed in the 
church cemetery. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until the service 
hour Thursday at the church. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine assisted the 
family.
