Born in Spruce Pine, she was the daughter of the late Jesse W. Rhyne and Effie Mae Turbyfill Rhyne, and wife of the late Thurman Willis Sr. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Jessie Peterson. She and her husband owned and operated the Dairy Queen/Brazier, the first fast food franchise in Monticello, and the Monticello Motel. She was a member of Monticello Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School in the Nursery Department for 25 years. Later she became an active member of the Fidelis class. Survivors include a son, Thurman Lee Willis Jr. of Monticello; a daughter, Nancy W. McBroom of Monticello; grandchildren, Thurman Lee Willis, III of Athens, John Malone Willis of Macon, Ryan Thomas McBroom and Kevin Daniel McBroom, both of Monticello; sisters and brothers, Alice Pittman of Lincolnton, and Ronald Rhyne, Lucille Burleson, Doris Thompson and Harold Rhyne, all of Spruce Pine; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday at Monticello Baptist Church. Dr. Kerry Bunn officiated. Burial was in West View Cemetery in Monticello.
