Clayton Woodby 


    Clayton Woodby, 70, 2746 Siam Road, Elizabethton, died Saturday, March 17, 
2007, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. 


    A native of Mitchell County, N.C., he had lived most of his life in Carter 
County. He was a son of the late Oscar and Lydia Miller Woodby. In addition to 
his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Emmit Woodby. 


    Mr. Woodby was a 1954 graduate of Hampton High School. He was a 
construction worker and a retired employee of the Maintenance Department of 
ETSU. He served in the United States Air Force. 


    Mr. Woodby was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge No. 238, Scottish Rite, 
Knoxville, and Jericho Temple, Kingsport. He was a member of the New Liberty 
Free Will Baptist Church. 


    Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kristi and Travis Rowland 
of Elizabethton and Tammy and Jeff Boitz of Erwin; a son and daughter-in-law, 
Scott and Beth Woodby of Elizabethton; three sisters, Avanell Arnett, Aileen 
McKinney and Jean Phillips, all of Hampton; and six brothers, Hayes, Conley, 
Ken, Dennis and Alvin Woodby, all of Hampton, and Van Woodby of Elizabethton. 
Several nieces and nephews also survive. 


    Funeral services for Mr. Woodby will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, March 
19, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ray Colbaugh and the Rev. Nathan 
Jennings officiating. Music will be provided by the New Liberty Quartet. 
Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, in the 
Woodby Family Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the V.F.W. Post 
No. 2166 and the Tennessee National Guard. Active pallbearers, who are 
requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, will be Scott 
Woodby, Jeff Boitz, Travis Rowland, Kenneth Colbaugh, Mack Smith and Bill 
Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers. The family will receive 
friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at 
the residence of a daughter and son-in-law, Kristi and Travis Rowland, 2570 
Bob Little Road, Elizabethton. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral 
home at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery. Online condolences to the
