He was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Carrie Buchanan Woody. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Greene, Pearl Peterson, Shirley McCray, and Beryl Bennett; and a brother, Zeb Woody. He was the owner-operator of Woody Construction Company, a former employee of the Tennessee Electric Company in Kingsport Tennessee, the former fire chief of the Bakersville Fire Department, present chief of the Ledger Fire Department, and a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Eula Pitman Woody of the home; one daughter, Kathy Young of Bakersville; two sons, Mark Woody and Matthew Woody, both of Bakersville; five sisters, Lucille Burleson, Barbara Taylor and Gail Fowler, all of Johnson City, Tenn., and Sue Greene and Mattie Styles, both of Bakersville; one brother, Charles Woody of Bakersville; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Bear Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Chris Rathbone officiated. Burial was at 11 a.m. Saturday in the the Bear Creek Cemetery. The Ledger Fire Department assisted in the graveside service. The family received friends from 5 p.m. until the service hour Friday at the church.
