SYLVIA BUCHANAN WOODY 

SPRUCE PINE - Sylvia E. Buchanan Woody, 79, of the Grassy Creek community, 
died Saturday, March 10, 2007 at her home. She was the daughter of the late 
Roscoe and Nellie Blackburn Buchanan, and wife of the late Walter T. Woody. 
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jim Buchanan, and a sister, Lucy 
Buchanan. She was a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church for many years and 
was later a member of Pine Branch Baptist Church. A homemaker, she was a 
member of Mitchell County Home Demonstration, Baptist WMU, and the Pine Branch 
quilting circle. She worked many years with 4-H and G.A.'s

Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Bledsoe of Marion, and Anna Margaret 
(Peggy) Walker of Louisville, Ky.; three sisters, Emma Jean Johnson and 
Margaret Wright, both of Newland, and Marcella Young of Spruce Pine; two 
brothers, Maurice and Phillip Buchanan, both of Spruce Pine; eight 
grandchildren;and two great-grandchildren. 

A Celebration of Life service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Pine Branch 
Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Mitchell County, 
P.O. Box 38, Spruce Pine, NC 28777; or Mitchell County Meals on Wheels, c/o 
Mitchell Senior Center, 152 Ledger School Road, Bakersville, NC 28705.
