MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Ambrose Gordon Wagner, 23 Feb 2003 ----¤¤¤¤---- Ambrose G. Wagner Mr. Ambrose Gordon Wagner, 87, of Jackson Avenue, Elizabethton, died at his residence Sunday, February 23, 2003 following a lengthy illness. He was a native of Bakersville, N.C. and had lived most of his life in Carter County. He was the son of the late James and Nancy Bell Wagner. Mr. Wagner was retired from Leon-Ferenbach and was of the Pentecostal faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Greenwell Wagner in 1972, and by one brother and three sisters. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Edward Mitchell, and Nancy and Freddie Guinn, of Elizabethton; four sons and daughters-in-law, Ambers and Debbie Wagner, and Jimmy and Mary Wagner, all of Elizabethton; Larry and Grace Wagner, of Hampton, and Rev. Doug and Mary Wagner, of Bluff City; two step-sons, Elmer Rehart of Elizabethton and Ronnie Rehart of Bristol, Tenn.; one step-daughter, Barbara Shell, of Elizabethton; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive. WAGNER -- Funeral services for Mr. Ambrose Gordon Wagner, 87, of Jackson Avenue, Elizabethton, who died Sunday, February 23, 2003, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2003 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy English and the Rev. Glenn Sheets officiating. Music will be under the direction of Peggy Sue Stiltner, soloist. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2003 in the Emmert Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Doug Wagner, Jr., Gordon Mitchell, Jesse Guinn, James Guinn, Ambers Wayne Wagner, Edward Mitchell, and Shannon Sigman. Honorary pallbearers will be Arnold Whitehead, Dr. Sheryl Pack, and the staff of Hospice and Housecall of Elizabethton. The family will receive friends in the Sunset Chapel from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, or at the residence of a daughter, Kathy Mitchell, 1017 Arney Street, Elizabethton, at any time.
