MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Alma Harrell Whitson, 18 Feb 2004

BAKERSVILLE - Alma Harrell Whitson, 89, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004 
at her home. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Ella Wheeler 
Harrell, and wife of the late Frank Whitson. She was also preceded in 
death by a sister, Polly Arledge, and a brother, George Harrell. A member 
of Big Rock Creek Baptist Church, she also attended Buladean Presbyterian 
Church. She was retired from the North Carolina School System, having 
taught in Buladean and Tipton Hill.

Survivors include her daughters, Sue Grundstrom of Green Mountain, and 
Wanda Hope Tipton of Bakersville; a stepson, Frank Whitson Jr., of 
Johnson City, TN; sisters, Olivia Kerns and Thelma Hill, both of Johnson 
City; six grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. 
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Henline-
Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Revs. Ralph Buchanan and Joe Bennett 
officiated. Burial was at 11 a.m. Saturday in Roselawn Memory Garden. The 
family received friends from 6 p.m. until the service hour Friday at the 
funeral home.
