MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Joelene Hampton Garland Williams, 30 Mar 2004

BAKERSVILLE - Joelene Hampton Garland Williams, 87, of the Ledger 
community, died Tuesday, Mar. 30, 2004 at Spruce Pine Community 
Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Merritt and Fushia Hensley 
Hampton, and wife of the late Frank Garland and the late Ed Williams. 
She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Laura Chase; a sister, 
Mayfree Spencer; and a brother, Laymon Hampton. She was a member of 
Ledger Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Saunders of Madisonville, TN; 
sons, Calvin Garland of Atlanta, and Carroll Garland of Boone; a sister, 
Susan Kennedy of Charlotte; a brother, Ralph Hampton of Johnson City, 
TN; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. 
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ledger Baptist Church. 
Revs. Shane Buchanan and Jay Orr officiated. Burial was at 10 a.m. 
Thursday in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 5 p.m. 
until the service hour Wednesday at the church.
