He was the son of the late James and Bell McKinney Woody. A veteran of WWII, he was a co-founder of Woody's Chair Shop. He was a member and deacon of Grassy Creek Baptist Church and a charter member of Grassy Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Buchanan Woody; daughters, Rhonda Bledsoe of Marion and Peggy Walker of Louisville, KY; sisters, Zelma Mckinney of Spruce Pine and Eleanor Young of Newdale; brothers, Arvel and Frank Woody of Spruce Pine; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Grandstaff Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Revs. B.G. McMahan and Sibbald Lambert officiated. Burial was in Grassy Creek Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
