MARY ALICE BUCHANAN YOUNG 

VALDESE - Mary Alice Buchanan Young, 76, died Sunday, April 16, 2006 at Frye 
Regional Medical Center. A native of Mitchell County, she was the daughter of 
the late Bela and Ann McClellan Buchanan, and wife of the late Lawrence Edward 
Young. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Solid Rock Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Gregory Young of Orlando, FL; two daughters, Linda 
Cassida and Gale Buchanan, both of Valdese; four brothers, Carl Wayne Buchanan, 
Larry Joseph Buchanan, Charles Randle Buchanan, all of Spruce Pine, and Eddie 
Buchanan of Burnsville; three sisters, Betty Jane Matthews of Henderson, and 
Ilean Jenkins and Donna Gay Milesap, both of Spruce Pine; four grandchildren; 
six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Solid Rock Baptist Church. 
Revs. Tony Land and Jason Southard officiated. Burial followed in the church 
cemetery. The family received friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial 
donations may be made to Solid Rock Baptist Church, 2505 Burke Memorial Park 
Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
