A native of Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Wess and Pearl Forbes Yelton. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, G.B. Yelton and George Byrd. A self-employed carpenter and farmer, he was a member of Beans Creek Freewill Baptist Church and a member of Chapter 57, Disabled Veterans; and Unicoi County Masonic Lodge #681 AF and AM. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Army in the Pacific. Survivors include his wife, Lois Honeycutt Yelton; a daughter, Cynthia Yelton of Johnson City, TN; a son, Clyde Yelton, Jr. of Unicoi, TN; sisters, Ruth palmer, Roan Mountain TN, Mary Graybeal of Erwin, TN, Charlotte Yelton and Willie Norman of Gastonia, Ann Melton of Aiken, SC, and Dixie Lee Hoilman of Unicoi; and a brother, Earl Yelton of Unicoi. Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Rev. Howard Honeycutt officiated. Burial was Tuesday in Garland Cemetery with graveside rites by the Unicoi County Masonic Lodge. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
