He was the son of the late Will and Texie Hughes Yelton. A member of McKinney Cove Baptist Church, he had been employed at Henredon Furniture in Spruce Pine. Survivors include his daughter, Fran Buchanan of Bakersville; two sons, Joey Yelton of Spruce Pine, and Johnny Yelton of Hickory; three sisters, Polly Hoilman and Minnie Hoilman of Bakersville, and Dolly Jones of Hickory; three brothers, Frank Yelton of Bakersville and Warfield and Bill Yelton of Spruce Pine; three grandchildren; and one great grandson. Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Revs. Ronnie Gouge and Buster Yelton officiated. Burial was at 11 a.m. Saturday in Green-Young Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
