Parnell of Montgomery Co NC was a son of John and Margaret Storm Parnell of Bladen and Robeson Co NC. He was born in Bladen Co NC in the year 1790, and was apparently named for his maternal grandfather, Wendell Storm, who had come to Bladen Co NC prior to the Revolutionary War. At a young age the Parnell family moved over the Big Swamp and settled in Robeson Co NC. His father died there when he was about eight years old. When his mother died is unknown, but we do know that on November 6, 1833 that he and his siblings, being residents of Robeson Co NC at the time, sold one hundred acres of the Storm estate that had come to them as “heirs”. This land had been patented by their grandfather in the year 1768. Sometime about the year 1815 he was married to a woman by the name of Phereby. Who her parents were is not yet unknown; however, it appears as though she was an only child with her parents perhaps dying young. This indication is given in the Last Will and Testament of William Baxley, as she, his “granddaughter” was to receive, $25.00 from his financial estate. Taking into consideration the other bequeaths of the Will, this amount appears to have been a “child’s portion”. She was born in Robeson Co NC about the year 1798. Although, the date is not known, this family moved to Montgomery Co NC probably sometime in the decade of the 1830’s. They remained there, where he died in 1857/8, and she sometime after the year 1860. They were the parents of at least nine known children. These children were as follows: 1) Thomas Jefferson Parnell, born circa 1817. 2) Henry T. Parnell, born circa 1820, living in Georgia previous to January 1863. 3) Amos T. Parnell, born circa 1822. On January 8, 1854 he was married to Amey Freeman in Montgomery Co NC. He apparently died by the year 1884, and his widow, served as the Administrix of his estate. 4) *Sarah Parnell, born circa 1823. On July 16, 1841 she was married in Mocksville to Richard Hudson. She evidently died without issue previous to January 1863. 5) David K. Parnell, born circa 1829. On March 1, 1862, at the age of 34 years, he enlisted as a Corporal in Company H 44th Regiment North Carolina Troops. He died less than two months later, on April 28, 1862 in a hospital in Raleigh of “Typhoid fever”. On December 23, 1852 a bond was set for his marriage to Mary Ann Freeman in Montgomery Co NC. He died with issue. 6) Emily Parnell, born circa 1833, died without issue previous to January 1863. 7) Eli P. Parnell, born circa 1835. On November 16, 1854 he was married to Martha Johnson in Montgomery Co NC. On May 8, 1861, at the age of 29 years, he enlisted as a Private in Company A of the 21st Regiment of North Carolina Troops in Wake County. He later died in a hospital at Lynchburg, Virginia on or about August 28, 1861 of Disease. 8) Larkin N. Parnell, born circa 1837. On August 1, 1861, at the age of 25 years, he enlisted as a Private in Company E, 28th Regiment North Carolina Troops in Montgomery County. He later died on November 19, 1861 at Wilmington, NC. He died without issue. 9) Martha Ann Parnell, born circa 1839. On July 28, 1863 she was married to Joshua Amos Maness in Montgomery Co NC.
