N.C. Montgomery February 5th 1871 Mr. D.M. Chisholm My Dear Son, this leaves our all in good health, hoping it may find you engaging the saim blesing. I recievd a leter and nuspaper and a leter when you was on your way to Moses and yourn and his leter dated 11th January and both your likeneses of whitch I was verry proud. I suppose you and Moses was glad when you met William and famely was well the 1th January I was down to se him last fall, he had an exelent crop only the wet had drounded rite smart of it but I think he would make a plenty he is on a verry good place he can make more and give half where he is than he could hir and he is at no expence Noah Thompson is gon to the factory at Rockingham Martin Sedberry and Nancy Livingston is married he is going to live where Thompson left Jim Martin and Bel Nicholson is married Mart Thompson and Sarah green is married Mart McDaniel and Mirna White is married Corn and what plenty above Troy at $1.00 per bushel oats 40 to 50 cts. porke $10.00 pe hundred Scarce I have got a plenty of meat I made 40 galans of Sirrup as good as ever was made I shal have to by Corn but I dont mind it when I can get 2 bushels of corn for one days worke George Morris has aske for Adline Cook I hir she has got a leter said to be from you that you wil Cumback and have hir yet and She is waiting to hir from you. I believe the leter was forged to brake up the match with hir and Morris for if you have got the pluck of a high minded Chisholm and a proud Scotchman you wil Scarce the ide of Creapeing to a woman that Slited you as she did and give further Chance to throo it up to you all the days of your life for my part I would se any woman that god ever put a gut in dead before I would take an insult from hir and then mary her when you receive this you and Moses write me a long leter this wil doe for you both I Should have been very glad to have sen Moses in hir this winter if his busynes would have admited I wish you both the best of Succs I remain your affectianate father til death.
