This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Brenda Ballard Pflaum BrendaBP@AOL.com *************************************************************** Benjamin Bowles/Boles: Revolutionary War pension Declaration and Award State of North Carolina Montgomery County on this 4th day of July, 1820, personally appeared in open Court being a Court of Record for the County of Montgomery, Benjamin Bowles, aged fifty-five years, who being first duly sworn according to Law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provisions made by the Acts of Congress of the 18th of March 1818, and the first of May 1820 that he, the said Benajmin Bowles, enlisted for the term of twelve months on the 10th of April in the Year 1781 in the State of North Carolina in the Company (?? one word) by Captain Smith & Brevard in the 10th Regiment in the line (?) of the State of North Carolina on the Continental establishment (?), that he continued to serve in the said corps until the 12th of April 1782 when he was discharged from the service in the State of North Carolina in Chatham County, that I (?) (one word?) in taking Thomson’s Fort on the Congoree River & Brown’s and Grason’s Forts in Augusta, Georgia. And in ?? of the Act of the first of May 1820 I do solemly swear that I was a resident Citizen of the U.S. the 18th day of May 1818 and that I have not since that time or any part of it with intent thereby to (?? one word) it as to being myself within the provisions of (?? one word) acts entitled (??) an Act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and Naval service of the U. S. in the Revolutionary War (?? One word) the 18th Day of March 1818 and that I have not nor has any person for interest for me any property or (?? one word) contracts or debts due to me, now have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule here to and next by me subscribed that is one horse valued at 30 Dollars, one cow and calf valued at 10 Dollars, one small Bed (?) valued at 15 Dollars and eight or ten young (??) worth perhaps ten Dollars amount in all to Sixty (?) five Dollars and that my Family consists of myself. My wife and my Daughter. Sworn to and declared on the 4th Day of July 1820. Signed North Carolina Benajmin Bowles Pension Award as follows: Montgomery Co. N. Carolina Private in 10th N. Carolina regiment, 1 year from April 1781. In the army of the United States during the Revolutionary War Inscribed on the Roll of North Carolina at the rate of 8 Dollars per month to commence on the 4 of July, 1820. Certificate of Pension issued the 16 of Oct., 1820 and sent to J. B. Martin, agent, Lawrenceville, N. Carolina. Arrears to 4th of Sept. 1820 -- $16.29 Semi-anl.
