Schall c/o Hon. Thomas D. Schall House of Representatives Madam: In response to your letter dated the seventeenth instant, you are advised that in the papers on file in this Bureau, it is stated that one James Langdon (Landen) of Johnston County, North Carolina, served ten months in the North Carolina Militia, under Captains Raiford and Williams, and was in the service at the time Norfolk, Virginia was burned, and in Gates' defeat at Camden. There are no dates of enlistment or discharge stated. Soldier married in Montgomery County, North Carolina in 1815, Catherine Beaman. He died in November 1835 in Owen County, Indiana at the house of Zachariah Langdon (no relationship stated), and his widow Catherine was allowed bounty land for his services, on her application executed July 20, 1855, while a resident of Owen County, Indiana, and seventy-one years of age. There is no further family data on file in the claim. The above is the only James Langdon found on the Revolutionary War records of this Bureau. For the location of said bounty land, you should apply to the Commissioner of the General Land Office, Washington, D.C., giving him all of the following data: "Warrant No. 52.778 for 160 acres of bounty land under the Act of March 3, 1855, issued January 9, 1857 to Catharine Langdon widow of James Langdon, Private, North Carolina Militia."
