Nancy Parsons Declaration for Widow’s Pension - 1839
Declaration
In order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress on the 7th of 
July 1838 entitled on Act. Granting half pay and Pensions to 
certain widows.
State of North Carolina
Montgomery County
On this the 4th day of July 1839
Personally appeared before Nancy Parsons a resident of the 
county aforesaid in the said county of Montgomery aged about 
sixty five years who being first duly sworn according to law doth 
on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the 
benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed July 
7th 1838 entitled an act granting half pay and pensions to certain 
widows That she is the widow of Joseph Parsons late a Pensioner 
who was a private and a captain of Militia in the Revolutionary 
war as will appear by his Declaration and papers on file in the 
office of the Commissioners of Pensions in the City of 
Washington the further declares that she was married to the said 
Joseph Parsons sometime in the summer of the year 1790 or 1791 
or before but which of those years she cannot speak with certainty 
that she has no record of her marriage nor can she specify the 
month nor the day of the month on which she was married 
precisely that he husband the aforesaid Joseph Parsons died on the 
28 day of November 1837 that she was not married to him prior to 
his leaving the service but the marriage took place previous to the 
first of January seventeen hundred and ninety four viz. About the 
time above specified.
Sworn to and subscribed on the day and year above written before 
me and acting Justice of the Peace of said County.

Came personally before me this day Daniel McAulay and acting 
Justice of the Peace William Bruton of said County aged Seventy 
years who after being duly sworn deposeth and sayeth that he was 
well acquainted with Joseph Parsons late a Pensioner of the 
United States and with Nancy Parsons his wife who has sworn to 
the within declaration from the time of the time of their marriage 
and that he has lived within a few miles of them until Joseph 
Parsons died and he further deposes and sayeth that they were 
married as he believes though he did not se them married some 
time about the year Seventeen hundred and ninety that he has no 
doubt nor has he ever heard any expressed but that they were 
lawfully married about at or about that time.  Sworn to and 
subscribed before me this 4 day of July 1839.

This day came personally before me Daniel McAulay an acting 
Justice of the Peace for said county Thomas Butler of said county 
aged eighty ninety years who after being duly sworn deposeth and 
sayeth that he was well acquainted with Joseph Parsons late a 
Pensioner and with his wife Nancy Parsons and that he lived 
within a few miles of them during the life time of said Parsons 
That they were married to the best of his knowledge about the 
year 1790 and that they lived together as man and wife until his 
death and that though he did not see them married he never heard 
doubt expressed of their lawful marriage and the deponent further 
sayeth that the said Nancy Parsons is still a widow.  Sworn to and 
subscribed before me this 4th July 1839.
