Gilead soon. Our young friend H. O. Hall, of Flagtown has entered school at Oak Ridge Institute. Mr. J. Reese Blair’s office is about completed, and this wide awake lawyer will move into his new quarters at an early day. Mr. R. L. Harris, of El Dorado planted 10,000 hills of tobacco which netted him $15,000. The tobacco grew on two acres. Mr. J. B. Haywood is building a very handsome dwelling in Mt. Gilead. We are setting ready with pen in hand to offer our congratulations. It is rumored that Mr. W. S. Ingram, of Mt. Gilead, is selling his stock of good at cost, with a view of abandoning the mercantile business. Preston Covington, son of Mr. A. B. Covington, was kicked severely by a horse on Monday evening. We are glad to know he is improving rapidly. We are pained to hear of the death of Mrs. Mariah Wooley which occurred on Saturday 20th. The deceased was a constant member of the Presbyterian church. Mr. Franklin Epps was united in Matrimony to Miss Florence A. Leach by Rev. James Jordan on Thursday the 15th last. All of this county. The distressing news reached us yesterday of the death of Mr. De Wit Baldwin of Perkin township, this county. Mr. Baldwin was one of Montgomery’s most energetic young citizens. He was a member of the Methodist church, and about 35 years old. To the large circle of friends and relatives we extend our heart felt and sincerest sympathy in this hour of bereavement. Snow and hail now cover the ground. Mr. W. I. Cranford left for Trinity College the 8th inst. Mr. Jesse Usery, of Troy, formerly of Ophir paid us a visit, during the holidays. We are certainly sad to hear of the death of A. S. Harris, Esq. of Eldorado, the 14th inst. To the bereaved family we extend our heart-felt sympathy. Obituary Died near Troy, Montgomery County, NC, on Jan. 19th 1888 in her 76th year, Mrs. Rachel Bell. She was converted and joined the Methodist church at Shilo in her 14th year. On Sunday before her death she was filled, as it were, with the Holy Ghost, and praised God and gave us all her parting blessing, but she lingered with us a few days longer, and expressed great desire to depart and be with Jesus, for she realized “that if this earthly house of our tabernacle be desolved we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” May God bless and comfort the bereaved one, and bring them all safe to heaven where parting will be not more.
