He is on a gold mine prospecting trip, but does not show a desire to be interviewed. Messrs. A. B. Moore and W. B. Deaton have rented the shop occupied last year by the Presnells, and will continue the black smithing business there. Married, on Dec. 24th, 1889 at the residence of Mr. C. R. Watkins, Mr. Peter Lizenby, of Stanly county, to Miss Henrietta Stacy, of Montgomery county. Messrs. O. J. Allen and Jos. B. McKenzie of the Vidette force spent the holidays among friends at Mt. Gilead and Wadeville, and report a pleasant and enjoyable time. Mr. George Bostick, of Dallas, Texas, a son of our esteemed fellow-citizen, Rev. W. M. Bostick, arrived in town last Friday on a visit to his parents after an absence of several years. Our genial young friend W. J. Scarboro, of Worthville, dropped in to see us Monday. In behalf of the Citizens of Troy, we can assure Mr. Battle of a hearty welcome. At the meeting of the Board of town commissioners, Dec. 21st, Dr. J. B. Douglass tendered his resignation as Mayor, and W. H. McNeill, Esq. was elected in his stead. A good selection and one that will doubtless prove satisfactory to our citizens. We have been informed that Mr. R. B. Sutton has entered into partnership with our enterprising townsman, Mr. W. D. Clark, and they together will at an early day go into the mercantile business at the new village of Candor, and that they will also run a turpentine distillery there in conjunction with their store. Success to them. Prof. Jas. H. Scarboro, who has of late been traveling in the interest of the Southern Bureau of Immigration, gave us a pleasant call last Saturday, and we were pleased to learn that he has accepted the principalship of Mt. Gilead High School. He is a finished scholar of superior talent, a son of whom Montgomery should be proud and if his merits are to reap a proper reward his school will certainly be well patronized.
