GILEAD LOCALS Rev. Dr. Sanford preached two very able sermons here the 12th inst. They were both strong discourses and very interesting. Mr. Tom Horne, of Lilesville, was in town last Monday and Tuesday. He is looking after some business interests up in the gold region. LOCALS W. D. McIver, Esq. left Tuesday for Raleigh where he goes on professional business. Mr. Baxter Jordan has moved into town and now occupies the David Wright property. Last Tuesday Mr. S. J. Smitherman killed four one year old hogs whose total net weight was ?17 lbs. Mrs. A. W. E. Capel of Ramseur, accompanied by Mr. J. C. Watkins, also of Ramseur are in town on a visit to relatives. W. R. DeBerry & Bro's offer through C. C. Wade, Real Estate Agent, a valuable tract of mineral lands for sale. At his home in Pee Dee township, on the 9th inst. Mr. Jones Smith died of consumption and was buried on the 10th at Zion. He leaves a wife and several children. Mr. R. B. Sutton will, we learn, in a few days move with his family to Candor. The society of our little town will lose by the departure of Mr. and Mrs. Sutton, They are clever, social neighbors and will be missed. A fine setter dog was bought a few days ago by our sporting friends W. D. Melver and J. R. Blair. He is a beauty and is named "Zeb" after North Carolina's favorite statesman. CANDOR DOTS Mr. R. L. Pttman, of Marleboro, S. C. is visiting his mother and friends in the vicinity. Mr. M. McQueen has erected a saw mill near Candor and is doing a good business manufacturing lumber which is now in demand at Candor. Mr. J. J. Tomlinson has purchased a lot from Mr. Page at Candor, and will at an early day erect a store and turpentine distillery thereon. Mr. W. S. McKinnon is visiting the family of W. F. McMaster. Died at his home near Filo, on Monday, Jan. 6th, 1890, G. W. Hunsucker, aged 69 years. Hollingsworth Farmers' Alliance meets at S. L. Parsons, on Jan. 25th Public speaking is expected by Dr. D. Reid Parker, at 11 o'clock A. M. Preparations will be made to seat a large crowd. Everybody come.
