A highly valuable and respectable citizen in all relation of life; he uniformly discharged to the upmost of his ability, his obligations to his family, his friends, and to his God. He had been a consistent member of the Baptist Church upwards of fifty years, most of the time a deacon. He was for some years a Justice of the Peach, and member of the Legislature. He was emphatically and to the fullest extent, an honest man; and has left to his afflicted and bereaved friends, a legacy more valuable than all the riches of the world could have given. Thus he went on for the last fifty years handing down to the uprising generation, moral and religious instruction. But he is now gone to reap the rewards for his labors on earth. He has left very numerous offspring, most of them seem to be trying to walk the narrow path their father trod on the day he was interred at the grave. A friend proposed that all who had a hope in Christ Jesus would make a certain sign; and out of 100, fifty three made the signs, most of whom were his relations. >From 'Biblical Record & Southern Watchman" Raleigh, NC, Sat.
