DIED,

   Near Springfield, Missouri, on the 10th of August, 1861, JOHN S., youngest 
son of A. W. Chambers, of Montgomery county, N. C., aged about 30 years.  He 
was a graduate of the University, in the class of 1854; removed to Arkansas in 
1858, was elected 1st Lieut. in the Augusta Guards, and was instantly killed 
by a Minie ball while leading his men on to victory in the battle of 
Springfield.
