FOR THE OBSERVER.

                                    Camp Holmes, N. C.

   Morrison Crawford of Co. F, Camp Guards, from Montgomery county, died at 
the Fair Ground Hospital, on pneumonia, on the 7th inst.  It was intended by 
his county men to send his remains home, but permission was refused by the 
commander of the post.  The deceased was a kind and obliging soldier.  He 
participated in the fight at Kinston and was taken prisoner by the Yankees.  
He leaves a wife and children, and many friends tro mourn their irreparable
