Guthrie n/a September 27, 2009, 8:40 pm Charlotte Observer Boiler Explosion at Troy Four Whites and One Negro Killed and Three Others Fatally Injured - Too Little Water in the Boiler. Mt. Gilead, via Norwood - Aug. 17 - A boiler explosion, caused by too little water in the boiler, at Taft's saw mill, at Troy, resulted in the death of four whites, one negro and three other whites and one negro badly hurt. Three of these will die. The killed are Charlie Morris, Jim Capet, Samuel Ewing; the others are not known. All are unmarried. Dr. Ingram is attending the wounded. Mr. Taft was sick and not present. He is a gentleman from Virginia, in the saw mill business, and this misfortune calls for sympathy for himself as well as for the afflicted. The news from the scene is meagre.
