Davis Obituary I regret to chronicle the death of Joseph L. Davis, elder son of Col. J. H. and Malvina V. Davis of Eldorado, who died on the 12th inst. of congestion of the Liver, age 17 years 6 month and 8 days. His remains were deposited in Macedonia Cemetery on Tuesday. From the above we readily see that in youth this young has been called by the Master from among us. For what purpose he was taken from his loving parents, his school mates and comrads so early in life, no one can tell save the wisdom of Him who called him hence: though, while he was young, he was nevertheless a good, moral, civil, and an obedient boy-with unexceptional manners. He was converted to God at Center church, last fall, through the preaching of Revs. Anderson and Strider. "No flower can drop Too soon, if ripe for glory: Early plucked is early bliss. Your sainted one is set, A beacon light upon the heavenly shore. To which in may deep, dark nights of sorrow, Oft you may turn your eye." This should be a glorious consolation to the bereaved family, that the dear on has gone in peace and harmony with God, who created him. 'Tis true that Joseph's place in the family is vacant and can never be filled by him again, but dear parents I can only say to you, that while your hearts are torn and bleeding, only remember that the same hand that carried your son home to glory, is waiting to carry your spirit to his-and in conclusion I extend to the bereaved family and friends my heartfelt sympathy in the hours of loneliness and despair. The best thing I can say to you is to meet you dear one in heaven. A Friend El Dorado, NC Mar. 16, 1888
