Gilead April 7, 1927--Charles Stanback, 70 prominent resident of this place, died at 12:05 this afternoon at a Hospital in Charlotte, death being caused by a stroke of Apoplexy. He had recently undergone a serious operation but was well on the road to recovery and was able to walk about the hospital. Mr. Stanback had been identified with a number of business enterprises here and had extensive farming interests. He was a native of Richmond County, son of Mr. and Mrs. Presley Stanback. He was educated at Old Trinity College and was a member of the Methodist church. In December of 1870, he was married to Miss Della Ingram. To them were born 11 children, eight of whom survive, as follows: W. J., T. M. and Fred of Spencer; Harris I of East Orange N. J., C. L. of Miami, Fla; Wallace, Jacksonville, Fla,. Mrs. J. M. Marshall of Washington D.C. and Miss Eleanor Stanback, teacher in the schools of Wilmington. One brother J. F. Stanback of Raleigh, and a sister Mrs. Judith Dockery of Wadesboro also survive. The funeral will take place Friday afternoon at 2:30 in the Methodist Episcopal Church here followed by the burial in the Sharon Cemetery.
