Col. Jeffery F. Stanback, U.S.A. Reserve, formerly of Raleigh and now of Montgomery county, has received orders placing him on the retired list of the Army of the United States, effective January 31, 1954, after some 38 years connection with the Army. Colonel Stanback was a member of Ambulance Company, No. 1, and Coast Artillery Company No. 1, National Guard; both of Raleigh. He was in the National Army and served in France during 1918 and 1919; was in the Reserve until six months before World War II when he was called on active duty and served until 1947 and has been in the reserve sense that time. Colonel Stanback helped organize the Raleigh Chapter of the Reserve Officers Association in 1922 when a lieutenant and was the first secretary of the chapter. He served in all of the chapter and state department offices up to and including state vice president, when he left the state temporarily. As major he reorganized the National Sojourners chapter at Fort Bragg in 1939. He has been an active member of that organization until recently.
