Written: 1836 Recorded: December 23, 1836 RANDOLPH SUPERIOR COURT (Reprinted From the Southern Citizen) The State vs. QUENASELL HARVEL – Grand Larceny – In this case, the defendant was convicted and sentenced to receive 20 lashers; which was put into execution forthwith. She was not a resident of this County; but transiently passing through from Davidson to Moore, in which latter county she is said to have been raised. It was in evidence that she had stolen ten dresses, a leg- horn bonnet, a silk veil, a shawl and $4 or $5 in money from the prosecutrix, a young woman named WILLIAMS. This was the first scene of the kind ever witnessed in our county: a woman whipped publicly at the post!
