Moore County, NC – Benjamin W. Williams - Act to Erect Bridge, 1826 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ An Act to authorise Benjamin W. Williams, of Moore county, to erect a bridge across Deep river Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That Benjamin W. Williams, of Moore county, his heirs and assigns, be, and they are hereby authorized and empowered to erect and keep up a toll bridge across Deep river, at a place formerly known by the name of Gillchrist’s ferry. And be it further enacted, That as soon as said bridge shall be completed, the said Benjamin W. Williams shall be authorised to ask, demand, and receive the following toll for the crossing the same, viz. For every four wheeled carriage of pleasure, seventy-five cents; for every wagon with four horses, fifty cents; for every wagon with one or two horses, and every two wheeled carriage of pleasure, twenty-five cents; for every cart, twenty cents; for every man and horse, ten cents; for every horse, five cents; and for every cow, sheep or hog, three cents. And be it further enacted, That the said Benjamin W. Williams is hereby authorized to keep a gate on the road leading to said bridge, on his paying the usual tax thereon.
