He is living about two miles from me his three oldest daughters is married and is living in this neighborhood his son Samuel is living in Missouri and William Alabama unkle Jessy philips and his family is well ? and John Philips is maried Eli Jane Nancy Marthy Reiny and Poly is all single yet Poly has one child and is in a likely way to have another there is a great many of the presbyterians turnd out the same way they say they got religion and they cant fall from grace the Baptist believe the the same way I want to now whether the Baptist in that country belive this way or not I don't beli ieve it for there is two many causions in the bible to be no danger read the 18 chapter of Ezekiel the chap with all the balence of the of the conedgions in the New testament will convince iny one that is not ? after the commandments and doctrine of men unkle Jesy is turnd out of the church and aunt caron is about to quit the old Baptist these are ? ? State of Tennessee Jackson Cty this the 9th August 1847 David SC Johnson pen Dear Cousin William W Johnson I take my pen in hand to write to you to in form you that we all are well at present hoping that these few lines will find you all in joying the same blessing I will in form you that I have written two or three times to unkle William W Sears and got no answer and I I want you to write what is the reason of ? what has become of him I want you to write to me how Elizah Johnson cousin & Louisa Campbell is coming on you ? you to write to me if I should want to write to Washington Sears I want to now where I should direct my letter I want to know how Grand Mother aunt Mary ann and Catherine J sears is com ing on whither they are dead or alive I will inform you that we have had a very dry summer and crops does not look very well I will inform you that I have nothing of any importance to write to you for times is hard and mony scarce but all kinds of property is rising in the country horses that was worth 50 dollars last year is worth 75 dollars this year ? that was worth 6 and 7 dollars last year is worth 9 and 10 dollars this year hogs was 2 dollars this year I will inform you that corn is 2 dollars per barel for it is very scarce for people boated it to New Orleans and shiped it to England And Ireland I will inform you that bacon is worth from 8 to 9 cts pr pound coffee and sugar is worth from 10 cts to nine pence pr pound I want you to write in your next letter how property sells in that Country I will inform you that there went severl young men from this country to the Mexican war some went last year and some this year they that went last year has got bac all but they that was killed and and died with sickness and the officers that that fought under under Generl ...Z...Taylor highly recommends him for President next and I think that the people of this country and all others as far as we can hear will unite if he comes out I think that he is the most suitablest man to unite the people of this union he is called whig but he will not run on either side of the quistion David SC Johnson when this you see remember me Mr Harville Johnson Brother James Johnson Janeral Johnson Dear brother I have again bin permitted to take my pen in hand to in form you that we are all well at pres ant hoping these few lines will reach you injoying the same state of health I received your letter and I was glad to hear that you are yet alive for many sence I seed you are gone to aternity and there names is almost forgoton on earth brother James you wrote you were in debt and that you ?? couldent well move I am am very sory hear that for I wanted you and Harvill to leave there for if you were in iny of the western countrys you could do beter then there I have heard from the western district last spring they are Moving to Mississippi they say it is a greateal Beter there then in the District I wanted to go this fall and see it and if I liked it beter then here I would move there But I want to git in about thirten acrs of new ground sow I dont expect to git of this fall Elexander Johnson talked of moving this fall tel him to come on I will sell him as much land as he wants I want you to write me as soon as possible for I heant got time now to write for I must start to white plains I want my in law to write and Washington as soon as possible brother James Johnson you said that you want me to prepare to meet you in heaven this is the most desirable thing on earth I am still living in the Chrisitan church and expect to hold faithful to the end of my pilgrimage on earth and if you have not repented of your sins and bin converted and bin baptised into ? le the wicked forsake his way and the un richeous man his thoughs and let him turn to the lord for the well have Mercy and to our god for he will abundetly pardon so farewell Janeral Johnson James Johnson Harvill Johnson wen this you see remember me Janeral Johnson Elisabeth Johnson
